The Commission of the Future of the Maryland Courts has recommended the elimination of contested elections for Circuit Court Judges. Judges would be appointed by the Governor after being nominated by a Commission, also appointed by the Governor.
In my opinion this is BAD. Look at the Judges we now have appointed by the Governor. Look at the accusation of improper behavior. Look at those Judges appointed by the Governor who have left the role of Judge after accusation of improper behavior.
The safeguard that we, as citizens, have against political appointments and corruption is our Constitutional right to vote. Every time the legislature takes this right away from us, we don't get it back and lose it forever.
